Bird VS Dragon

Several years ago, when I was in 6th grade, a battle took place that I will not soon forget.

The sixth grade classes were on a field trip to a place called Medieval Times. (Which, by the way, was really awesome. If you have the opportunity to go, do so. =D) The bus ride there was at least an hour or so, so we were allowed to bring electronics. I brought with me my SP and Emerald version.

Booting up the game, I entered the Union Room. There, I found two of my classmates, Oscar and Kevin. We talked using the chat feature, and they tried to explain to me where on the bus they were sitting. It took me a while, but I finally noticed them close to the back.

Having figured that out, we proceded to take turns battling. Oscar and Kevin never formed a tag team against me, although it would have been neat if they did. I don't remember any of the other battles, except for this one.

The last battle was a double battle between myself and Oscar. Oscar had his powerful, level 70 Rayquaza out on the field, and one of my Pokémon was my trusty Swellow, Frightful. At the time, Frightful was around level 40. The battle certainly looked bleak for me- his Pokémon were easily 20 to 30 levels higher than mine. A mighty dragon against my puny bird- hopeless, right?

The battle waged on. Rayquaza and Oscar's other Pokémon had nearly destroyed Frightful. Hanging on by a thread of HP, it didn't look like she would last another round.

And that's when the tide turned- at least for this mini-battle, Frightful versus Rayquaza.

Frightful launched an Endeavor attack. Endeavor's an attack that grows stronger the weaker your Pokémon is, if you didn't know. The blow was powerful. I watched Rayquaza's HP bar as it flashed from green, to yellow, to red, and then black. Rayquaza dropped off of the screen, and I grinned in triumph. My tiny bird had taken down a powerful dragon with one move. It showed, to me at least, that strategy was a lot more important than power, and a lot more rewarding, as well.

Looking behind me, I caught Oscar's eye. His eyes reflected disbelief and anger, and he raised one hand in a rude gesture. My grin grew; that made it all the more worth it.

The rest of the battle was a complete failure on my part. Aside from Rayquaza, I don't believe I took out a single one of his Pokémon. But that's ok, because I had shown him that a battle wasn't all about power. I showed that to myself, as well. Even though I lost, this battle was totally worth it.
